05-16-2013 Day 55

Called Max to advise him that first payment was made and the patio is still not complete.  He advised me he no longer works for Builders Unlimited.  So I called Bill and Matt asking for status updates.  No response.

05-15-2013 Day 53

No calls from anyone AGAIN today, I guess I will have to make calls and bug people tomorrow.

This is past the point of getting old, being promised a call back and that promised broken.

05-14-2013 Day 53

I finally had time at lunch today.  I called Bill and had to start the call by asking him if he was still the project manager since they got paid already.  He ensured me that he was still on the project and needed to call Kyle for a update.  Bill told me he would call me back.

I received no calls from anyone associated with Builders Unlimited by the time I went to bed.

05-13-2013 Day 52

I received no call from anyone today, so I have no clue what is going on at this point.  I was busy all day so I did not have time to call and bug anyone today.

05-10-2013 Day 51

I called Kyle for a update late in the day for a status update.  He had not heard from the Oberfields paver expert yet.  I will have to wait till Monday.

Still no communication from Builders unlimited management staff to check in.  What is bad is that I had to mail in my first loan payment today, when the job is not finished.  I am not getting any good communication yet I am literally paying for something that is not completed.  I knew signing off on the project may come back and bite me.

05-09-2013 Day 51

Kyle called and said that the sales rep had no answers, but forward his call to "The Man" that would know.  A voice mail was left by Kyle for "The Man" asking for assistance.

05-08-2013 Day 50

This was the view of my patio when I went to work in the morning.  It had lightly rained so while it is wet all looks good.

Kyle was back out today power washing (Awesome bigger water bill!!!) with another detergent per Oberfields, but did not produce the results that was expected.  He told me that he was going to make some calls and get a firm answer from Oberfields on the next step.

One good thing is that it appears that Kyle fixed the pooling water and a loose step.

I have not heard from Bill, Max, or Matt at this point on this latest product issue.

05-07-2013 Day 49

Kyle and Dan were here all day power washing.  Two good things came out of this:
  1. They saw the pooling of the water and promised to fix it tomorrow by re-setting some pavers.
  2. They confirmed my concern about the color of the pavers not showing up
However there were a few down sides to the work done today:
  1. A lot of the mortar wash washed out in between the pavers
  2. it was 5-8 hours of water being used from my tap, can't wait for that water bill
By the end of the day Kyle was not happy with the look of the paver color as they started to dry.  He was going to call Oberfields to see what to do.

05-06-2013 Day 48

Kyle called me today to tell me he would be out tomorrow to power wash my patio with a mild detergent to see if that will take off the mortar / super sand.  Also hopefully this will bring out the color in the pavers.

05-03-2013 Day 47

Patio:
After everything dried over night you can see the difference in the pavers I power washed and the pavers I did not touch.

The pavers are supposed to be a brown / tan color, NOT grey.

Kyle came out to glue down the fire pit caps and two other loose stones.

He called me later to tell me that he wanted to power wash the patio, and maybe use some product to strip off the mortar from the pavers.  I went into great detail stating that I did not want the pavers damaged or the color to be damaged.  My other concern was all the power washing, scrubbing, and chemicals may take off any sealant the manufacturer may have put on them.  I asked him to run any plan by the manufacturer before proceeding.

Kyle also said he would look at the water pooling issues, when he comes out Monday or Tuesday.

If power washing is the solution I wonder how large my water bill will be, assuming they are using my tap.

05-02-2013 Day 46

After waiting all morning for someone to show up, I called Kyle to see when he was going to make it.  He told me he was still waiting on Bill to drop off the Scott's Patch Master.  When I explained I was waiting for him because I wanted to review items with him before I left for work.  He told me that he was around the corner at lunch and would be over soon.

Kyle actually had a new moving blanket for me to replace the missing one, and a touchup pen for the basement ( the baseboards were scuffed up when the carpet was installed), and the bag of sand.  Come to find out Kyle made a mistake and did not have glue for the pavers.  However he did look at the pavers that were moving and re leveled them.  He needs to add more mortar around these pavers he fixed and promised to do it tomorrow when he comes back with the glue.

After he left, I had wasted almost a day, so I just called my boss and took a vacation day since most of my day was already gone.  I took advantage of this time to power wash my siding and to attempt to power wash the mortar that was on the pavers.

I also had my son take the shop-vac and vacuum the ground.  Yes you read correctly, vacuum the ground.  There were so many piles of sand and rocks, there would be no way any grass would grow.  I was totally surprised that my large shop-vac was filled up three times with rocks and sand.
Dirty siding after a month of cutting pavers and the dust flying everywhere.  I hit the middle part with the power washer to show the difference.

One thing became apparent very quickly, I have a low spot on the patio and water was pooling.  Also my 2300 PSI power washer was taking an extremely long time to get any of mortar off.

I was getting angry about the whole thing, so I called Matt again and expressed my concerns.  My big point was we were in the home stretch and it was 99% done, but these fine details were killing me.  I also expressed my concern that that I already signed off on the project as being "Complete" so they would get paid, and I am not getting the attention I needed to be 100% complete.

Matt first of all thanked me for calling him directly with my concern, which I thought was cool of him.  As far as the mortar, he was not concerned with the cleanup effort.  He told me there was a cleaning product meant for this.  He was concerned with the attention to details and making sure I was getting the service I needed.  He was going to make some calls and someone would get with me tomorrow.

Water pooled above the soles of my shoes where my socked got instantly soaked.

2 hours later the only wet spot is where the water pooled up.

05-01-2013 Day 45

I was at work all day and found out that nothing was completed on the patio and no supplies were dropped off.  I called Bill and he said something came up and he would have Kyle come out tomorrow.
